The Six-Day War, in which Israel defeats the combined armies of Egypt, Syria, and Jordan, and occupies the West Bank, East Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, the Golan Heights, and the Sinai Peninsula.
Hark, good people, lend me thine ears,
For I bring tidings of a great strife and fears.
In the year of our Lord, nineteen hundred sixty-seven,
A war that would shake the very foundation of heaven.
The Six-Day War, they did call it, a battle so dire,
As Israel faced foes with sword and fire.
Egypt, Syria, and Jordan, their armies combined,
With intentions to vanquish, but fate was unkind.
For six long days, the armies did fight,
As bullets and bombs filled the day and night.
The West Bank, East Jerusalem, Gaza, and more,
Were seized by Israel, a victory to adore.
The Golan Heights, too, fell to their might,
As their enemies' efforts were put to flight.
And the Sinai Peninsula, now under their command,
As the Arab world lay wounded, a tragic demand.
Yet, as with all battles, victory brings pain,
And the aftermath, a price that’s not in vain.
For the people of Palestine, a great sorrow,
As their land and homes were taken with little tomorrow.
The Six-Day War, a tale of triumph and loss,
Of heroes and villains, of a heavy cost.
May we remember this history, and learn from its ways,
And seek peace in all our coming days.
