Palestine history

November 15, 1988

The Palestinian Declaration of#nbsp;Independence is#nbsp;announced by#nbsp;the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in#nbsp;Algiers, recognizing the State of#nbsp;Palestine with Jerusalem as#nbsp;its capital.
Oh, hearken to#nbsp;me, noble lords and ladies fair,
For I#nbsp;bring news of#nbsp;a#nbsp;moment rare.
In#nbsp;the year of#nbsp;our Lord, nineteen hundred eighty-eight,
A#nbsp;declaration that sealed the Palestinians' fate.
'Twas on#nbsp;November the fifteenth, a#nbsp;day to#nbsp;remember,
The PLO in#nbsp;Algiers made an#nbsp;announcement so#nbsp;tender.
The Palestinian Declaration of#nbsp;Independence it#nbsp;was called,
A#nbsp;moment that left many a#nbsp;heart enthralled.
For the State of#nbsp;Palestine, they did proclaim,
With Jerusalem as#nbsp;its capital, a#nbsp;place of#nbsp;great fame.
A#nbsp;nation born from the ashes of#nbsp;strife,
A#nbsp;dream made real in#nbsp;this moment of#nbsp;life.
The world took note of#nbsp;this historic day,
As#nbsp;the Palestinians finally had their say.
Recognition at#nbsp;last for their long-held claim,
A#nbsp;hope for a#nbsp;future without any shame.
But alas, the road ahead was not so#nbsp;smooth,
As#nbsp;peace remained a#nbsp;goal still to#nbsp;prove.
Jerusalem, a#nbsp;city of#nbsp;great divide,
A#nbsp;challenge that still remains to#nbsp;be#nbsp;tried.
Still, the Declaration stands as#nbsp;a#nbsp;beacon of#nbsp;hope,
A#nbsp;reminder of#nbsp;a#nbsp;time when the people could cope.
May we#nbsp;remember this moment with pride,
And work towards a#nbsp;future where peace may abide.
